What Is Psychotherapy & Counselling?
Psychotherapy and counselling provide a safe and structured space to talk openly about what’s going on in your life. While many people think therapy is only for crisis situations, it can also be helpful for everyday stress, relationship difficulties, decision-making, or personal growth.
Counselling often focuses on current challenges and practical coping strategies, while psychotherapy may explore deeper emotional patterns and long-standing behaviours. Both approaches aim to help you better understand yourself, develop healthier thinking patterns, and build resilience.
Sessions are collaborative and guided at your pace. You won’t be analysed or pressured. Instead, you’ll be supported in making sense of your experiences and developing tools that genuinely work for your life.

All consultations are delivered via secure video sessions, allowing you to attend from home, work, or wherever you feel most comfortable. For many people in rural communities, telehealth removes barriers such as travel time, privacy concerns, and scheduling difficulties.
You simply book online, receive a secure link, and attend your session using your phone, tablet, or computer. The experience is structured, professional, and confidential — just like an in-clinic appointment.
Many clients are surprised at how natural and personal telehealth sessions feel. In fact, being in your own environment often helps people open up more comfortably.

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Some are going through significant life events such as relationship breakdowns, career changes, grief, or health challenges. Others are dealing with ongoing anxiety, stress, burnout, low mood, or difficulty managing emotions.
In rural communities, there can also be unique stressors such as financial pressures, family expectations, isolation, business responsibilities, farming stress, or the feeling that “everyone knows everyone.” Therapy provides a private space to talk freely without worrying about local judgement.
No concern is too small. If something is affecting your sleep, relationships, work performance, or overall wellbeing, it’s worth addressing.

At Aligned Health Clinic, therapy is grounded in evidence-based methods while remaining practical and relatable. Sessions are tailored to the individual rather than following a rigid script. Your therapist may draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and person-centred counselling techniques, depending on what suits your needs.
The focus is not just on talking about problems, but on building tools you can use between sessions. This may include strategies for managing anxious thoughts, improving communication, setting boundaries, regulating emotions, or clarifying life direction.
Therapy is not about “fixing” you. It’s about helping you better understand yourself and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
-
Your first session is simply a conversation. It’s an opportunity to explain what has brought you in, share as much or as little background as you feel comfortable with, and begin identifying goals. You do not need to prepare anything in advance or know exactly what you want to say.
Many people start with, “I’m not even sure where to begin.” That is completely normal.
From there, sessions typically run for around 50 minutes and are scheduled at a pace that suits you. Some clients attend short-term for specific issues, while others prefer ongoing support.
-
Privacy is particularly important in smaller communities. All telehealth sessions are conducted through secure platforms and adhere strictly to Australian privacy standards. What you discuss remains confidential, with the standard legal exceptions related to safety.
You do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if eligible, you may choose to speak with your GP about a Mental Health Care Plan for potential Medicare rebates.
A Whole-Person Approach
Aligned Health Clinic was founded on the belief that physical and mental health are closely connected. Many people experiencing chronic pain, tension, fatigue, or stress-related symptoms benefit from addressing both the body and the mind.
By offering integrated services under one clinic, we aim to support the Young community in a more complete and balanced way.
